AVI files in Vue 5 Infinite

 By Knut Uppstad www.knupps.net

PREPEARING YOUR VIDEOFILES

You can use your DVcam footages in your Vue projects.

It can be used as an animated material on an object or

on a plane. Put it on a plane in a flatscreen TV object

and get a moving picture. Very nice effect.

There is only one problem. DVcam footage is a COMPRESSED videofile

and V5I don`t accept that. We have to convert the file to UNCOMPRESSED AVI file.

To do that, we need a video editing program.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1

Import your file and drag it to the timeline.

Trim your project or make a short movie.

Then you have to export your file.

File/Export/Movie

This box comes up:

Click settings and a new box appears.

Your DVcam footage is a compressed AVI file, called Microsoft DV AVI.

Click Microsoft AVI and OK. The program is now exporting an uncompressed file.

Remember to reset it to default settings when you work with normal video.

The file size is very huge, but we can now use it in our Vue projects.

ALPHA CHANAL OR MASK

Bluescreen and Alpha chanal or Mask

If you shoot a person in front of a blue or green screen,

you are able to import a moving person into your Vue project using the Alpha Plane,

and make the blue transparent.

But first we have to make a Mask.

Import the bluescreen (greenscreen) footage to Adobe Premiere.

Select Effects and Key effect. Choose Blue Screen Key or Green Screen Key.

If you have a black background you want to key out, use the LUMA key.

In Effect Controls you go to Blue Screen / Luma Key.

Mark the Mask Only. You will get a black and white picture.

That is the mask.

Slide the Threshold and Cutoff until you get a good mask.

Export the file as uncompressed AVI file.

You now have two files. One normal and one alpha file.

LETS GO TO VUE 5 INFINITE

AVI FILES IN Vue 5 Infinite

Open a new project and choose the Alpha Plane

Import your first videofile and the Alphafile.

If you don`t get a perfect cutout you can click the inverse button

in the upper right side in the Alpha picture.

If you want the Alpha Plane to always face the camera, you can mark the Billboard option.

Uncompressed video is read in Vue as a sequense of still images.

Click OK.

Import other objects and make a project. Make a simple project and see how it works.

Experiment and use your imagination.

Go to Animation and you get a moving person in your project.

Export as uncompressed AVI file and you can reuse this file in other Vue projects.

Click thumbnail to view the animations.
