Z_Depth in After Effects and Photoshop

Coordinates XYZ
DOF, or depth of field, is achieved in a 3D image by using z_depth.
Coordinates in a 3D image is X,Y and Z, where Z is a messaure of the distance to
objects in the image.

3D image file CAR.jpg Z_depth image file CAR_z.jpg
Dark means close to the camera and lighter means further away from the camera.
When you combine those files in a software, you can make a shollow depth of field.
Z_DEPTH IN AFTER EFFECTS
1. Import the files to AE and drag to timeline:

2. Add filter to the first layer. Effect/BlurSharpen/LensBlur.

3. In Effects Controls, click the Depth Map Layer, click the _z file.

4. Tweak the Blur Focal Distance to find your focus point..
In Iris Radius you can choose how blurred you want the picture.

5. Made an animation of a focus pull, using key frames.

6. See animation.
